  • Etiology unknown
  • Male = female.
  • Affects @ 3/1000 children
  • 25% bilateral 

Congenital Trigger Thumb Anatomy

  •  Flexor pollicis longus (FPL) tendon thickened and catches on A1 pulley. 

Congenital Trigger Thumb Clinical Evaluation

  • Generally presents with fixed IP joint flexion deformity.  
  • May begin with triggering which progresses to fixed thumb IP flexion contraction 
  • Painless
  • May have "Notta's node" which is a promient flexor tendon nodule.

  •  Thumb xrays are normal.
