  • 27071 Partial excision, wing of ilium, symphysis pubis or greater trochanter or femur, craterization, saucerixation) eg osteomyelitis or bone abscess; deep subfascial or intramuscular
  • 27299  Unlisted procedure, pelvis or hip joint

  • stage I or IIa disease

  • >Stage III disease

Core Decompression Technique

  • Core Decompression - removal of 8-10mm core of bone from femoral head and neck.

Core Decompression Follow-up care

  • Post-op: Non-weight bearing
  • 7-10 Days: 6weeks protected weight-bearing post-op.  Wound check.
  • 3 Weeks:

Core Decompression Outcomes

  • Often provides prompt relief of pain.  64% achieve satisfactory clinical results compared to 23% for those treated non-surgically. prognosis is better the earlier the lesion is found and the smaller the lesion.  . (Bozic JBJS 1999;81A:200)
