Tourniquet
- wide cuffs require lower cuff preasures
- do not exceed 2hrs without 30min reperfusion period
- pad beneath tourniquet
- pressures=50-75mmHg above systolic for UE, 100-150 for LE
Tourniquet Complications
- neuropraxia
- wound hematoma
- vascular injury
- tissue necrosis
- compartment syndrome
- Infection: reused nonsterile tourniquets are frequently colonized with bacteria and may be factor in surgical site infections. (Walsh EF, Orthopedics 2006;29:709).
